The Troika Dialog Group Legal Department was the winner in this year's "Best Legal Departments" contest, held by Corporate Lawyer Magazine under the support of Pynes & Moerner. Troika Dialog's lawyers took first place in the "Investment Banks" nomination, a field which also included seven Russian and international investment banks and companies.
Winners were selected within sixteen nominations. The pool of nominees included top-tier companies in key sectors of the Russian economy. To reach greater familiarity with the legal work of these companies, Corporate Lawyer Magazine hired the Russian Public Opinion Research Center to conduct a qualitative investigation. Research took place by means of expert interviews with the heads of the legal departments. The winner in each nomination was determined by a vote of the Experts Board, which included partners in law firms and the heads of legal departments at major corporations based in Russia and abroad. Ernst and Young, the competition's official auditor, worked to ensure the observation of voting guidelines, the accuracy of vote counting, and the impartiality of the Expert Board.
The "Best Legal Departments" competition is in its third consecutive year. The competition’s aim is to determine which legal services within major Russian companies are most effective, and to thereby create public recognition for the professional successes of corporate lawyers, both as a class and within particular departments. The competition also serves to circulate the best practices of legal service organization and legal risk management among Russian companies, create unity among the professional community of lawyers, and raise the overall level of significance and status of the legal profession.
