Sberbank CIB named The Bankers Most Innovative Investment Bank in CEE region 2016

Sberbank CIB1 is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the title of Most Innovative Investment Bank in Central and Eastern Europe in The Banker magazine’s 2016 Investment Banking Awards. The annual awards, which are granted by a judging panel of top industry experts, look to highlight excellence and innovation in the investment banking field globally. This is the second time that Sberbank CIB has been recognised for its leadership in this region in investment banking by The Banker, having also won the award in 2014.

Sberbank CIB was recognised for its significant role and innovative approach on a number of leading transactions in the region across the period, including the following notable deals:

  • The debut issue of inflation-indexed government bonds (OFZ-IN) by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. Successful placement of the bonds enabled a new market benchmark to be created for both the Ministry and corporate issuers
  • Global Ports’ Eurobond transaction; an inaugural deal for the company on the external debt capital markets, and the first deal of its kind among Russian issuers since the escalation of geopolitical tensions in early 2014
  • The deal to tender Sovcomflot’s Eurobonds and issue new dollar-denominated Eurobonds worth $750 mln
  • Acquisition of 95% of Prime Shipping Group of Companies by the Joint Venture of Sberbank and Rosneft

Commenting on this award, Igor Bulantsev, Senior Vice President, Acting Head of Sberbank CIB, said: “The past year clearly demonstrated that today the market requires innovative approaches. This can also be seen in landmark transactions that we have worked on in recent months, including after the period covered by this award, such as the privatisation of 10.9% of ALROSA, which was one of the largest public privatisations in Eastern Europe since late 2013, as well as the biggest Russian placement since February 2014; the 14-year $340 mln loan agreement with Sovcomflot, which also included the participation of Sberbank Europe AG (a Sberbank subsidiary); and the acquisition of 95% of Prime Shipping Group of Companies by the Joint Venture of Sberbank and Rosneft. These deals would not have been possible without effective and innovative teamwork. Winning such a prestigious award for the second time is a real recognition of the ingrained strength of our corporate and investment banking capabilities.”
